Bookmakers’ Favourites for the Irish Premier Division
The Irish Premier Division is one of the hottest all-Ireland football events of the calendar, and now in its 41st year, it’s amassed quite the following. And we’ve certainly seen some great action so far, now that we’re part way through the season. In line with this thought, today, we’re exploring the current odds on the different teams to see which are in the running to be the bookies’ favourite to win.
Who are the Bookies’ Favourites to Win The Irish Premier Division?
At the moment, while most bookies aren’t yet offering odds on the overall winner of the Irish Premier Division, there seems to be a consensus for the top picks. Namely, the Shamrock Rovers have clearly made their mark this season, with Bet365 and BoyleSports both offering odds of 11/8 (2.38) on the team to win.
However, while they’re the strong favourite at the minute, there’s still plenty of scope for other teams to pull off a surprise performance, with St Patricks currently being the next big contender. Namely, they’re currently sitting at odds of 11/4 (3.75) with Bet365, while BoyleSports are offering slightly less optimistic odds of 3/1 (4.0). With this in mind, it certainly isn’t outside of the realm of possibility that either of these two names could bring home a win.
Perhaps the biggest contributor to the Rovers’ position as favourite is their incredible form in the Premier Division so far this year. Indeed, pulling off several highly impressive wins (namely winning 4-1 against Cork City and 3-0 against Drogheda United at home) has undoubtedly made them look good in the bookies’ eyes. Still, St Patricks also managed an impressive 3-0 win at home against the Bohemians, and they also managed to beat the Sligo Rovers away by 4-3.
So, in the end, it’s likely not a controversial statement to say that either team could stand a good chance of winning. But who knows – they’re not the only teams in good form, and while they’re currently the bookies’ favourites, anything could change over the next few matches.
Final Thoughts
At present, it’s looking like a pretty strong choice between either the Shamrock Rovers or St Patricks to pull off a win for the Irish Premier Division, with both teams boasting impressive form and short odds. However, with several months still to go until the finals, there’s always all to play for, and who knows – maybe we could see a slightly longer odds team such as Derry, Shelbourne, or Drogheda in the final lineup?
