Grand National favourites for 2024

The biggest day in the British Horse racing calendar is edging closer as the Grand National is set to take place on April 13th.

55 horses remain in contention to run at Aintree. That number will be reduced to 34 before race day, as the number of runners has been reduced this year considering the safety of the horses and riders.

The iconic race attracts seasoned and new-coming bettors alike. So, for those looking to back an outright winner in this year’s race, let’s take a look at this year’s favorites according the top Irish bookies.

CORACH RAMBLER

Bet365 – 5/1, BetVictor – 5/1, Ladbrokes – 5/1, 888sport – 4/1

Last year’s Grand National winner is favored by major bookies to go back-to-back. Corach Rambler placed third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, which saw his odds shorten considerably and take the spot at the top of the bookmakers list.

I AM MAXIMUS

Bet365 – 8/1, BetVictor – 8/1 Ladbrokes – 7/1, 888sport – 7/1

The Willie Mullins-trained I Am Maximus won the Irish version of the Grand National in tough conditions at Fairyhouse in 2023. That marked his first victory in fence jumping, and he used that experience to win the Grade 1 Drinmore Novice Chase early this season. He sits second on the bookies list to win the Grand National outright.

VANILLIER

Bet365 – 9/1, BetVictor 9/1, Ladbrokes – 10/1 888sport – 9/1

Vanillier finished second in last year’s Grand National, trailing behind Corach Rambler by two and a quarter lengths, even though he was 12 lengths behind at the last obstacle. Most bookies at 9/1 to do one better this year and take home the crown.

KITTY’S LIGHT

Bet365 – 12/1, BetVictor – 12/1, Ladbrokes – 14/1, 888sport – 12/1

The eight-year-old, Kitty’s Light, consistently performs well in the springtime. Last year, he won three major races: the Eider Chase, the Scottish National, and the Bet365 Gold Cup. This season, he has mainly competed in hurdle races to maintain his handicap rating. As a result, he is slated at 12/1 to win it all on April 13th.

MEETINGOFTHEWATERS

Bet365 – 10/1, BetVictor – 10/1, Ladbrokes – 14/1, 888sport – 14/1

Meetingofthewaters started training with Willie Mullins at the beginning of the season. After winning his first chase race, he quickly followed up with a victory in the tough Paddy Power Handicap Chase at Leopardstown during Christmas.

PANDA BOY

Bet365 – 14/1, BetVictor – 12/1, Ladbrokes – 12/1, 888sport – 12/1

Another grey horse is aiming to join a special group of only three grey winners in the National race. Right now, he might be shielded from changes to his handicap rating after finishing fifth in last year’s Irish National, which was a respectable performance. Apart from that, he’s a steady performer trained by Martin Brassil.

MR INCREDIBLE

Bet365 – 14/1, BetVictor – 14/1, Ladbrokes – 14/1, 888sport – 14/1

Mr Incredible didn’t begin racing last season until Christmas. This season, he waited even longer, starting his first race at the Midlands National in mid-March. Despite this late start, he performed exceptionally well, finishing second in a strong showing. Most major bookies have him 14/1 to win outright on the 13th. Wilder things have happened on the biggest racing day of the year.
