How To Bet On Corners – Betting Guide 2024

Betting on football comes in many forms. One of the most popular offers you’ll see on betting sites is betting on corners. A common occurrence in almost every football match is a corner kick. A corner kick is granted to a team as a form of restarting the game when the ball has gone out of play. For a corner kick to occur, the ball needs to go over the goal line with no goal being scored.

Being a frequently occurring feature of a football match, there are plenty of betting options when it comes to predicting how many corners will happen in a single match.

Placing Your Bet

As with any sort of bet, the first thing you want to do is find the betting site, or sites, you want to use. It’s a good idea to use a betting site that offers a wide selection of markets. This way, you know they will offer what you are looking for. It can also be useful to have a few betting sites up your sleeve so that you can shop around for the best odds, especially if you want to bet in-play.

When choosing your betting site, consider the following:

  • The betting markets they offer
  • Their quoted odds
  • If they provide in-play betting
  • The welcome offers and bonuses they have
  • Ease of use

Welcome offers and bonuses can be a big deciding factor as certain bonuses can be incredibly valuable for a bet like betting on corners.

Once you have chosen the betting sites you’d like to use, placing your bet is simple:

  1. Register or log in to the betting site
  2. Navigate to their football or soccer section
  3. Select the market and match you would like to bet on
  4. Check that you are happy with the odds
  5. Enter your wager and submit your bet

Corner Betting Markets

While corner kicks may be just one small part of a football match, there are actually plenty of ways in which you can bet on corners. Betting sites offer an array of markets so that you can tailor your bet to a particular outcome.

In general, corner betting markets are typically Under/Over markets. This means that the betting site will state a line which is a number of corners they think will occur during the match. You then bet whether you think the actual number of corners will be more (Over) or less (Under) this line. You’ll find that some betting sites offer more than one line per market, with each line having its own odds.

Here are the different betting markets you will find for betting on corners:

Betting marketHow it works
Total match cornersTotal match corners is one of the most popular markets when it comes to betting on corners, with almost all football betting sites offering it. In this market, you bet on the total number of corners that will occur in the match before full-time.
First half / Second half cornersIn this market, you can bet on how many corners will occur in either the first or second halves of the match. This can be a great one for in-play betting.
Team cornersThis one works similarly to total match corners in that you are betting on the whole match. However, rather than predicting the combined total, you are betting on how many corners a single team will get. You can also bet one team corners for the first and second halves of the match.
First corner / Last cornerIn this market, you predict which team will take either the first corner or the last corner. Typically, a favourite will have lower odds for this market because they are more likely to play on the attack rather than the defence. This increases their chances of taking a corner.
Team with most cornersAs the name suggests, in this market you select the team you think will take the most corners throughout the match. Rather than being an Over/Under market like the rest, in this market, you select a team to ‘win’. Just like the previous market, favourites are likely to have lower odds because of their predicted playing style.
Corner betting handicapJust like other sports betting, there is a handicap market for corner betting. This is where a betting site will typically give the favourite a disadvantage and the underdog an advantage before the match begins. This could look like +2 for the underdog or -2 for the favourite, for example, meaning that you will be betting on a team to take the most corners once these total alterations have been applied to the final amount.
In-play bettingThe majority of betting sites will also offer in-play betting for the markets mentioned above. In-play betting can be great for this type of bet because it allows you to base your decision on real-time events. For example, if you see that one team is playing more on the defence, then you know that the other team has a higher chance of taking more corners. Similarly, if one team has taken a lot of corners in the first half, it can give you an indication of the number of corners that will occur in the second half.

Corner Bet Examples

Let’s take a look at a few of these markets in action.

In a game between Liverpool and Manchester United, a betting site might state a line of 10.5 for the total match corners market. Assuming you think the total number of corners at the end of the match will be 11 or more, you would bet Over. In this instance, if the final total is 9 corners, your bet would lose. Alternately, if the final number of corners totals 12, you would win.

Using the same match between Liverpool and Manchester United, you might find that a betting site places a handicap on Manchester United of -2. This means that if you bet on Manchester United with the handicap, they would need to take at least three more corners than Liverpool for your bet to win.

Corner Betting Strategies And Tips

  • Utilise in-play betting

As we’ve mentioned above, in-play betting can be great for corner bets. Corner betting can be harder to predict than other types of bets before the match has started. You can get an idea of which team may take more, but as for totals, it can be a bit more complex. Therefore, seeing how the teams are playing as the match goes on can give you a better idea for betting on the total number of corners at full-time or half-time, or the total number of corners a team will take for example.

  •  Look at team play style

If you know that one of the teams typically takes a defensive approach while the other focuses on the attack, you know that the latter team will be putting themselves in a position to receive a corner more often. This means, there is a higher chance of them taking corners which can help you make a judgement when placing your bet.

  • Look for teams that shoot from a distance

If a team is known for shooting from a distance, they could be a good team to back. This is because shooting from a distance increases the likelihood of them taking a corner when compared to a team that simply pass the ball.

  • Take advantage of welcome offers and bonuses

A common welcome offer or bonus that betting sites offer is a free bet, which can be perfect to use when betting on corners. This is because these markets only have two outcomes. Therefore, you can use your wager to bet on one outcome, and the free bet to bet on the other, meaning that whatever happens, you will have a winning bet.
